WOW…so behind…the 10 last months…

Posted in Uncategorized by Cindy on February 26th, 2010 at 4:28 pm

OK, so it’s totally official. I’m. So. Behind. In. My. Blogging. Yep, 10 months folks. And I’m not happy about it! Either is my hubby. We love being able to look back at our crazy life…and I have just not made the time! I’m still taking lots and lots of pictures, so that will help my journaling.

I have looked through our directories, and selected my favorite photo of each month. This was more difficult than it sounds.  Each picture is special, for many different reasons.

April 2009 brought Easter Egg Coloring…Sam was very serious about following the rules of Egg coloring; Maggie, not so much. We also went to our first Elmo show at the Murat and was still celebrating Mike’s awesome graduation from Chicago - and loving the extra time he has with us!

you're doing it wrong

In May 2009, Mike and I went to Churchill Downs to watch the races with Adam and Cara - and other WKU Alum. It was nice to see lots of pledge sisters and enjoy a day together. Mother’s Day was a wonderful day…

like mother, like daughter

June 2009 brought Sam to his first Swimming lessons, St. Simon Festival, and Father’s Day. Mike had a great day swimming with the kids and smoking ribs on the grill. He truly is the best daddy! Sam also enjoyed summer camps at the Fishers Parks and Rec. Strawberry picking was the highlight for the kids…

don't get wet
In July 2009, we went to our first parade as a family. The kids loved the bands, clowns, and candy! We got there early and left just before it started to rain. We also enjoyed the 4th with neighbors, Bonge’s Tavern with friends, Maggie’s first haircut (yep, first one in two years), Hamilton County Fair, and LOTS of playing outside. The kids still love being outside the best.
parade
In August, we had tonz of fun paddle boating on the Canal, going to the State Fair with Nini, our family Michigan beach vacation, and celebrating Maggie’s 2nd birthday. The kids LOVED the beach…we plan on going back this summer.
family
We celebrated Maggie, Mike, and Aunt Lisa’s birthday in September. Nana and Poppy came to visit, and we had the best time! We also enjoyed traveling the Nashville to visit the Macaso family. The kids loved the Nashville Zoo. Mike and Conrad went to the Metallica concert downtown Nashville.  We also went apple picking early…the apples were amazing!  I won 2nd place in the orchard’s apple pie contest!  The kids started school the first week - both Sam and Maggie go to preschool two days/week and just LOVE it.
fam
Sam’s favorite thing in October was T-Ball!!  He had practice once a week for a month at the YMCA. He loved his coach, and really enjoyed running the bases with his new friends!  The kids picked out pumpkins at the “patch” down the street - it was a very time consuming process! :) We went to Tennessee to visit Nana and Poppy’s house. The kids just love being there…Mike and I took an overnight trip to Atlanta to see the Bears game with our friends Heather and Josh. We loved tailgating and the people watching was amazing!
tailgating
November brought the Thanksgiving feasts at school and lots of outdoor pictures!! The kids really liked playing in the leaves this year! This is my favorite picture because it TRULY shows the personalities of Sam and Maggie.
December was full of fun, laughter, and holiday celebrations.  The kids both had Christmas programs at school…which were both super, duper cute. We had lots of fun with friends and neighbors over the course of the month. The kids loved baking and making a gingerbread house with friends. The kids especially love “licking the beaters.”  The first snow fell, so getting on hats, gloves, and boots was an awesome adventure for the kids. Maggie is always the first one to get ready! We saw Santa a couple of different times…to this day, Maggie still says, “Where Ho-Ho go?” and points to the little Santa house at the mall. Christmas morning was joy-filled - we stayed on our PJ’s the entire day and couldn’t have been happier! The kids LOVE singing happy birthday to baby Jesus and blowing out the candle!
New Year’s Eve brought the kids going to bed early and Mike and I cooking a gourmet dinner at home! The best!  In January, I was able to go to South Beach for a less-than-48-hour girls weekend with my high school besties! We’ve been trying to plan this birthday celebration for 4 years now…and we finally did it! We had the best time…I brought 4 books to read, and didn’t open one single one. We talked the entire time! :)
We also celebrated Christmas with the Barnett Family…one of my FAVORITE, laughter-filled weekends each year. The kids had a blast with cousin Gage and absolutely LOVE hanging out with Nana and Poppy.
We celebrated my mom and dad’s 45th wedding anniversary with a nice dinner at my brother’s house. Forty. Five. Years. Can you believe it? Such a wonderful couple, setting such an amazing example for us.
We had lots of snow storms in January and February..the kids love being out there - sledding was a HUGE hit with both kids. Now into February….it’s been COLD! Sam has enjoyed gymnastics with his cousins. Mike took Sam to his first hockey game - they enjoyed it so much. We’ve had our fair share of sickness…but all on the mend now. The Macaso family came for a visit to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Another snow store cut their visit short. The highlight of February is - drum roll please - Maggie is potty trained!!!!!  We can’t believe it either. Our little strong-willed princess has decided to go potty on the potty. And when she’s going, she closes the door and says, “privacy, please.” Hmmmm….
Well…I started this post, and it had been 10 months…now, it took me four days, not consecutively, to finish. It’s been 11 months. I promise…no more.

Sam’s grumpy this morning

Posted in Sam Talk by Mike on April 24th, 2009 at 6:41 am

It’s official. My 3 year old son is 3 going on 13. When I woke him up this morning to get ready for the day he cried and said, “Daddy, I don’t want to get up. I’m still tired.” Great. Last week he asked me for the car keys to my car.

Three and 18 months

Posted in Uncategorized by Cindy on March 17th, 2009 at 2:54 pm

Sam had a wonderful 3rd birthday party celebrated at school and with our family. He is totally into Dora and Diego these days, so the Dora pinata was a hit with the kids. Maggie turned 18 months in the same week. They both are too wild for their own good! They LOVE being outside these days….both start crying (yikes!) when it’s time to come inside. Hopefully the novelty will wear off a little…..

Lots o’ updates

Posted in General Babble, Sam Talk, Baby Maggie Talk, MBA by Cindy on February 8th, 2009 at 10:54 pm

It’s been so long since we’ve updated our website! The holidays came and went and now we’re in February! I have no excuse! Here are a few updates since our last post, in no particular order:

1.  Had two cookie exchanges at our house in the month of December….fun times and delicious cookies. Several new recipes to add to my book!

2. The kids and I tried to make the trip up to Chicago for Mike’s MBA spouse luncheon…packed the car, dropped Oliver at the kennel, and then saw 3 cars spin out and land in the ditch on I65. Called Mike and Karen to say, “we’re turning around!” We came home and made a gingerbread house!

3.  Christmas Tree decorating afternoon at my mom and dad’s house….Santa came for a visit this year and was a big hit with the grandkids! He even sang to them - insert here - retired music teacher trying to make some christmas cash by going to parties as Santa. Adorable!!!

4.  Maggie had her 15 month check up - all is great - 30 % for height and weight; 97% for head!

5.  Sam had his third dentist appointment. We went really excited; little did I know, this age hates the dentist.

6.  The Bears didn’t make the playoffs. Don’t mention football again until August.

7.  Annual Bonge’s dinner with great friends - amazing night!

8. I made probably about 15 dozen cookies and about 10 loaves of bread for the holidays. Yes, we love to bake around here!

9. Sam had his totally cute Christmas program at school. He loves to sing…but was a little shy in front of the “audience!”

10.  Took 3 total hours spilt between two nights to put the kitchen together that Santa brought the kids. Mike commented about 4 times that he could have written the instructions better…yeh…right honey…..

11.  Dinner date night with my two best friends and their husbands….we rocked out that night - how old are we?!?!  We realized we had NEVER been out, just the six of us, without kids…EVER. Is that possible?? So fun, and we’ll so do it again!

12.  Had a wonderful Christmas Eve and morning…the expression on the kids faces made our year.

13.  Celebrated New Year’s Eve with our friends Rachel and Conrad with their two girls Bella and Sopie…we rang in the New Year in our PJ’s playing Wii. Didn’t everyone do that?

14. Mike started his last quarter of school! Yippee!

15. Mike’s family came to celebrate Christmas in January. So fun to see family!! We miss them!

16. Record breaking snowfall brought a smile to Sam’s face…but not to Maggie! Sam loves to throw snow in her face!

17.  Did I already mention it’s Mike’s last quarter of school?

18.  Sam loves to count with his fingers.

19. Sam and his good friend Jack, went to the Monster Truck Jam downtown. Stayed out until midnight with daddy….

20.  Both kids have been sick twice….but all on the mend now!

21.  Maggie has all four eye teeth coming in…bring on the Motrin.

22.  I turned a very uneventful 33 years of age.

23.  Maggie is now running and is non-stop talking!!!

24.  Mike was pumped to use our snow-blower for the first time this winter!

25. Sam, most days, insists to be called “Bill.” And he calls us “Steve” and “Cracker Jack.”

26. Maggie, while out eating sushi, confused the soy sauce bottle for her sippee cup. Probably won’t make that mistake again.

27. Maggie loves to accessorize. Hats, purses, necklaces (usually rosaries), coats, socks (most times on her hands as sock puppets), etc. - you name it - she loves to wear it - all at the same time. No kidding.

28. The other day, Sam tried on a pair of my sunglasses and said, “Dude, do I look good?”

SO, there you have it. We’re getting older and growing up around here. Loving life in 2009….happy new year to everyone!

The donkey is going to Costco to buy underwear for baby Jesus

Posted in Sam Talk by Cindy on December 4th, 2008 at 2:43 pm

So…it’s day five of potty training Sam. It’s going really well, yet he still does have accidents. That’s OK…he’s having fun with it and loves his new big boy underwear. He’s proud of his sticker chart, and loves choosing his “super duper surprise” after he goes.

Yesterday, we were playing with his Little People manger scene. He snapped the wheel cart on the donkey, and said, “Mom, the donkey is going shopping.” I replied, “Oh really, where’s he going?” He said, “He’s going to Costco to buy underwear for baby Jesus.”

Do you think we’re a little obsessed with potty training?!

Maggie is walking

Posted in Baby Maggie Talk by Mike on November 25th, 2008 at 9:55 pm

Three weekends ago Cindy left for the weekend to go to WKU for her 10 year college reuinion. Sam and Maggie stayed with me, which was fun. I found out just how much a full time job those two are! If you leave them for more than a minute Sam is navigating through the TiVo menu and Maggie is crawling on top of the kid’s table. They’re crazy I swear! But we had fun. I had Sam put on his own clothes all by himself, which he resisted at first but finally obliged. And he went peepee on the potty for real for once. All I had to do was use some Halloween candy (whoppers of all things, I’ll let you do the visual.) More work to do on that. Now he no longer wants to sit on the potty, even if we try to bribe him with candy or DVD’s.

Maggie started walking that same weekend. She only took a few steps, but it was on her own. She stood up out of her little musical chair and walked two steps all by herself. I didn’t catch it on video. Since then it’s taken her quite a bit of time to take more than two steps. This past weekend she started walking a lot. Here’s the video evidence. P.S. Yes we have pants for her. No I don’t know why parents increase the pitch of their voice two octaves when talking to their kids.

The economy and Chicago GSB, er Booth, in the news

The economy may not be in great shape, but at least some people have money to spend…
