Hey baby, how youuuu doin?
Sam’s a natural when it comes to flirting with women. I didn’t know babies could wink.
Luke, I am your father…
I couldn’t help but laugh when I saw this pic because I had an instant vision of Star Wars… maybe Sam’s miticlorian count is high enough to be a Jedi?
A visit from Gage
Cousin Gage came to visit today with his mom Lisa. I think Sam enjoyed having someone more his size to play with. Oliver wants to wrestle too much. Note the pretty red hair on Gage… he gets that from his uncle I think.
Our first Easter
We had our first holiday - Easter Sunday! Sam did great in church - slept through the entire mass! We went to Nini and Papa Chiappetta’s house for lunch and an Easter egg hunt. Of course, he slept through the commotion of our niece and nephews! It was adorable to see them egg hunting and watching their faces light up at the next egg. Next year, he’ll be right up in the mix!
Pushing 10 pounds
Cindy had Sam weighed today at her breastfeeding class, and he’s up to 9 pounds 9 ounces. That’s more than three pounds more than when we brought him home. We are getting to the point where we can see it - his head looks much bigger to me, his arms and body look bigger, and his fingers are looking a little swollen. I guess that’s all good health stuff. We had to bag up some of his newborn clothes because they’re too small. And he’s out of newborn diapers…. except he manages to pee or poop out of his size ones pretty much every day. Note to self: consider buying another package of newborn diapers.
He’s also cooing a lot more and smiling more. We can’t seem to get him to do it on command yet, but when he’s in the talking and smiling mood, he just does it. It’s kind of fun when he stares at you too. He’s going to be interacting with us soon. I can’t wait until he can go to Home Depot with me and help mow the lawn.

Ladies night out
So I get home from work last night and Cindy says, “Hi, here ya go.” She’s holding out the baby with her arms fully extended. Well it is normal for me to take the baby and hold him when I get home. But this was different. Something about it made me think she was leaving, like she just had to get out for a while. I guess being locked up in the house for four months could wear on you a little. “Here’s a bottle, you’ll need to give that to him,” she added. “Haha, are you going somewhere?” I inquired with the slightest bit of trepidation in my voice. “Yeah, it’s ladies night. Did you forget?” “Ummm, no.” Well duh, of course I forgot. I remember our social calendar as well as Anna Nicole Smith remembers where she last put her bottle of Percocet, which is not good to say the least. “Don’t worry, we’re just going to El Rodeo, I’ll be back in an hour.” Great, margheritas and a bunch of gossiping women who haven’t gotten together in months, I’m sure that will only take an hour. “Ok, have fun,” I bravely proclaimed.
So we’re there by ourselves, which this isn’t the first time, but I’m still not used to it really. I’m always afraid he’ll start wailing and nothing I do short of strapping on that contraption Robert De Niro wore in ‘Meet The Fockers’ will get him to stop. Only we don’t have that contraption. At this point I seriously considered whether I had ever seen it at Babies R Us….
“What do you want to do Sam?” Kind of a rhetorical question at this point. I fed the bottle to Sam, which I think resulted in half of it actually staying in his stomach. Do all babies spit up this much? It’s almost like he has the flu sometimes, but the every day flu and not the 24 hour version. I would hate to have the every day flu. Think about how hard it would be to go to work. You’d need a change of clothes in the office. I guess you would have to carry a bucket around. But I digress.
After the bottle I needed to figure out what to do next. We could walk around in circles around the island, play on the floor, stare out the window, stuff like that. But I wanted to do a guy thing. So we did what all guys like to do, we watched Ultimate Fighting Championship on Spike TV. If you haven’t experienced UFC before, it’s kind of like boxing with some kicking, elbow throwing, wrestling and lots more blood thrown in. The fights keep going until someone is knocked unconcious or one of the guys taps out because the other guy is about to break his arm. I think Sam is a Tito Ortiz fan, he made a little noise when they announced Tito. Sounded like a vote of confidence for the Huntington Beach Badboy to me.
During the show, I noticed Sam was very happy. He almost looked like he was smiling. So I made his favorite sound, which is the “Woo whoo” sound that Will Ferrill makes in a funny scene in “A Night At The Roxbury.” If you haven’t seen that movie and you’re a Will Ferrill fan, you’ve got to rent it. I own it if you want to borrow. Well Sam made a “Aaaah” sound and smiled. Cindy calls it cooing. He did it four times. That was the first time he really smiled on demand, and really the first time he cooed that much.
All in all, it was a cool Ladies Night Out for Daddy and Sam.
3500+ hits and counting
We had 3500+ hits on the web site in the first month of Sam’s life. I didn’t really have any expectations of who or how many people would come to the site, but I guess to me that sounds like a lot. A little more than half of that was the day he was born and the day after. Somebody said I should be selling advertising space on the site. Haha, that’s funny. Well actually that IS a good idea, as I could use a steady source of income these days…
4-5 weeks old!
We cannot believe Samuel is 5 weeks old! We’re doing really well…sleeping when we can, taking walks in the stroller when the weather is nice, and enjoying Sam’s new discoveries each day. We just cannot wait until Sam smiles up at us…something we think is just days away.
Here is Sam’s 1 month Easter photo.

Today I witnessed something too funny for words; of course, I grabbed the Canon and took the moment. Three words: Mike, baby backpack, Xbox.
